In the desperation of making our life more comfortable, we have made our life even more complicated. In our childhood, being surrounded by kids of our age was our comfort zone. And now, a smartphone or tablet in the kid’s hand has become the only reason for their happiness. Do you really expect such children to be physically as well as mentally healthy?
In order to maintain a balance between our health and technology, we need to make immediate plans and stick to it without any deviation. First of all, we should set a time limit on the usage of mobiles or laptops. We are unable to calculate the amount of time we waste on social networking sites by just scrolling the newsfeed.
It is necessary to reduce the phone only to essentials. Keeping the non-essentials’ notifications off is really important. The useless messages keep popping in and may hamper our personal or family space. A particular time should be decided when you have a look on your mails and then, you won’t need to engage yourself in checking them continuously.
Have you heard about a daily update script? Here , we can create a list of plans( which can be technology based for us) and thus, spend a limited time on our phones. The list may contain items like:
*Reviewing our calendar for the present day- This will help us remain connected with the real world occasions, festivals, events etc and prepare ourselves beforehand only for future plans.
*Responding to text messages- we should not keep on checking the text messages the entire day.It will just make us spend our precious time on something which is not worth it.
*Organising or uploading new photos or videos- Nowadays, people are interested in keeping their phones up to date, especially gallery. So, a particular time of the day should be decided even for deleting useless photos or arranging it in different albums, whatever the scenario might be.
*Reviewing our finances- People are more into online shopping with the increasing busy schedule. Because of this, we might spend more than what we should and these will create a void in the balance of money in our house. Keeping a regular check of the online shopping will prevent the spending of money fruitlessly.
Keeping our Instagram or Facebook accounts updated is a basic necessity for the youngsters. We just scroll through photos and keep editing for the one perfect click. Then, we ponder over the caption for the picture to be posted. Each one of us can relate with this instance as all of us do this. If you start calculating the amount of time wasted on uploading a single post, you will realize how much time you could have spent with your loved ones in the real world rather than on posting something which isn’t even the REAL YOU.
A special hour of the day should be pre-planned when all the members of the house keep their phone aside in ‘DO NOT DISTURB’ mode and spend their quality time. By limiting ourselves to busy rough schedules, we have forgotten to give attention to the people for whom we are earning or living i.e. our family. This golden hour should become a part of every person’s daily routine irrespective of what situation they are stuck in.
“Today we are barraged by multitudes of voices telling us how to live, how to gratify our passions, how to have it all. At our fingertips, we have software, databases, television channels, interactive computer modems, satellite receivers, and communication networks that suffocate us with information. There are fewer places of refuge and serenity.”- James E. Faust
We have developed technology under our control. So, let’s not allow this to control our peace of mind and soul. Never allow the endless possibility and immediate availability of Tech tools suffocate Us(their creators).
